How to make a Lore Character

Someone asked for this, so why not! I asked the community on tips on how to make Lore Characters, and they delivered, so, here is the Lore News guide on how to make a Lore Character!

We have all been there, we’re creating or joining a new lore SMP, but we don’t know what to do, or how to do it. Well, I have certainly been there a couple of times, so, lets dig down into how to make a lore character!

Brainstorming!

The first thing you will have to do, is brainstorm ideas, rather that be making an online mindmap or make one on paper, just, getting all your ideas down can be a good start!

And then from those ideas, you can pick your favorites, and try to combine them into one character.

The things you brainstorm will most likely be appearance, species (if there is one), and background story!

Visualize

After you have gotten down the base idea for your character, it is time to visualize it, rather that be by drawing it, modelling it on blockbench, or making it on a character making website, I sometimes use this, which is a website where you can better visualize your character!

Find out the lore

After you have visualized your idea, its time to find out there lore, and this can pretty much be anything, but please, make it fit into the Lore of the SMP/series, please!!!!!!

Making lore can sometimes be hard, but again, you can always start by brainstorming ideas, and then with that, pick your favorite ideas, and then try to find a connection between those ideas, and make a small storyline of the past for your character!

Input from others!

I have asked the people in the community for their ways and tips for creating characters, and this was their ideas!!

First of all, we have Meloon, who said Base them off of what you know or are willing to research (and treat respectfully!) as well as what you’re comfortable portraying. If you don’t know how to properly interact with the themes of your character, it’s really hard to have a fun time with them.

Meloon is so right here, choosing a character or a character to base them off of, that you like, can really make it much more fun to both play and interact with!

Then, we have Cyrus, who said “My tip for making a lore character, is really make sure that your character has FLAWS. The more flaws, the better, because we cant all be perfect. We all have flaws. Its what makes us human, and adding that to your character can really make them feel real and really breathe life into them.”

I personally agree with Cyrus so much, legit, making your character have flaws was something I never thought about, but its such a good idea, every living being has flaws, so, make it have some!

The 3rd person that answered was, Jellwoah, who said “Improv and just winging it is key, making up silly backstory points makes your character a lot more lively.”

Which I actually also kinda agree on, like, winging it, and making your character grow with the story, and with the interactions from others, but also just making your character silly with silly backstory points!

Then we have our 4th person, DeStellr, and DeStellr said, way too much to just quote, but what they basically said was, “Start with a character similar to your personality to avoid burnout. Avoid making them overpowered; balance strengths and weaknesses. Plan out potential storylines, character development, goals, and moral alignment. Review and revise your character's lore for any inconsistencies. Finally, use audio and animatics to inspire creativity.”

Please do note, I asked AI to make it smaller, cuz I didn’t have time to do that myself :3
But yeah, I agree with DeStellr so much, and yeah, please, please don’t make your character too overpowered, and please make sure you don’t burnout by doing lore<3

Our 5th one, is Vovo, who y’all probably know, and they said, “My characters often aren't pre-planned and get established as the server goes on, if I must have a pre-planned character I keep it short without much detail so I can add the detail overtime. I've found that this leads my characters to be a lot more intertwined with the server lore. I highly recommend giving this technique a shot.”

Why do I agree with all of these so much… bruhhh…. but yea, not making your character too much pre-planned is a good idea, I do that too!

Our last person, is Ori!, who said “Never be too afraid to be inspired by concepts from media! Just try and avoid copying from the whole source unless you have permissions to or own the said media!”

But yea, again, I agree, getting base ideas from media is a good place to start!

This concludes our small guide plus input from others, I hope you liked it!
