Minecraft 2 has been announced, what about the Lore Community?
Notch announced Minecraft 2 on X (Formerly Twitter), but what about the Lore Community? we asked the community, and here is our findings.
What is Minecraft 2?
Let’s start slowly. What is Minecraft 2?
Notch asked on Twitter if the Community wanted a traditional roguelike mixed with a tile-based first-person dungeon crawler, or Minecraft 2…
And, you probably know where this is going,
Minecraft 2 won with 81.5% of the vote.
Before any of you begin saying, “Minecraft 2 doesn’t need a sequel.”
Notch already agreed with that.
What about the Lore Community?
This question has been difficult for me to answer, so I pulled some strings and asked the Lore Community, and they came up with this statement.
50% of the people answering the Form, said that they would make Lore on Minecraft 2, of course only if it is good, and there needs to go some time, so there can come updates in first.
And following that, I asked the community if they think Minecraft 2 can become bigger in the Lore Community than the current Minecraft, and they overwhelmingly said that they don’t think so.
Cyrus said, " Depends if it is actually good or just loses all its charm.”, which I honestly agree with. Minecraft doesn’t need a sequel, Notch already agreed on that, but yea, it really depends on if it becomes a good game or not, I just think we need to think about the possibility of a Law Suit by Microsoft if Notch uses the name Minecraft, since he doesn’t own the rights to the name anymore.
But that is all well, how would the community even adjust to there being a Minecraft 2?
And to that, I got almost only the same answer.
That answer is, that the community would be split in two, but the original Minecraft will most likely still be the most popular.
Wolf said something different tho, you see, Wolf said, “I believe the lore community could do wonders in MC2,.. if notch takes the path of the old theories of Minecraft, like how the shipwrecks happened, jungle temples, mineshafts, etc. I believe players could make a great series idea on those topics, perhaps new NPCS? that could make series feel less empty, with using vanilla Minecraft without mods.”
I kinda agree with Wolf, while also mostly agreeing with the others, but yea, if Notch decides to do as Wolf says, it would really enhance the Lore experience, where people can build on top of that already existing Lore, but I really don’t know if that will happen.
We have 2 things to talk about more, so let’s talk about a big one, Will Minecraft 2 be a good thing for the overall Lore Community?
With this one, it is really hard to say right now, because we don’t know more about Minecraft 2.
So we have to ask ourselves again after the game is our, or we get more knowledge about the game.
But to answer the question, I think Ninh_ji from Lumille SMP says it amazingly, "Eh, I really doubt it.”
I have seen a pattern in everyone’s answers, with some being hard-time, “wait and see”, and others being hard-time, “The current Minecraft can not be topped”, but this question about everyone had the same thing to say, which was, “No” and “Let’s wait and see”.
Notch’s former posts about certain topics.
To this question, I am not going to give any quotes, because I want everyone to be anonymous, due to this being the topic it is.
But to set it straight, Notch has had, certain tweets on Twitter, about the LGBTQ community, race, sex, etc. which you can read about here: https://www.newsweek.com/minecraft-notch-controversy-twitter-transphobic-q-1359020.
To this thing, most people said that either it would be bad for Minecraft 2 or that we should learn to separate the art from the artist.
Conclusion
Based on my research, first of all, we need more information about the game before we can make an actual decision.
But, I think there will be a little wave of people going over to Minecraft 2 in the start, to follow the hype, but after one series, or one SMP, or one Event, they will probably go back to the current one, after seeing that the current Minecraft will keep having the most hype in the long run.
Also, I don’t think it will be called “Minecraft 2”, due to Notch not having the rights to the game, and risking Legal Action by Microsoft by doing so.
